| Getting creative over at Hotel Tilawa, they've issued
an "open invitation" to the artists of Guanacaste and the
viewing public to attend a sort of art flea market on Nov. 22 "from
2 pm to whenever." It's an opportunity to show, buy, sell, and
exchange, says special events stimulator Bryan, adding, "I know
there's a lot of you out there with some great stuff, so come and
show it off. Bring paintings, photography, needlework, stained glass,
anything artsy."
There's music, the hot tub, and happy hour from 2 pm on, as well
as the beautifully situated swimming pool, which is always open.
With the visit of Jane Mirandette, the founder of the first free
lending libraries in Nicaragua, the Las Damas del Lago lending library
project got a great boost on November 1. A representative of the
Ministry of Education attended a meeting of Jane, Tilaran's mayor,
and Las Damas members Leslie Woods and Roberta Ward Smiley and said
that she sees this library project as a key vehicle to achieving
her mandate to stimulate school children to read more.

On Nov. 2, Leslie and Jane met with the president of
the local school board, Rolando Mejias Moreira, who showed them the
room in the school administration building that he plans to donate
for use by the library. A little renovation will be necessary.
Leslie went back to Nicaragua on Nov. 3 with Jane and $400 donated
by Las Damas to get the starter kit of 161 monolingual-Spanish and
bilingual books and administrative materials. Eventually there will
be an English collection, too. Anyone wishing to donate books can
contact Leslie at tronadoratwo@yahoo.com.
