Quite a few people were really
thankful for an excellent turkey dinner Nov. 18 at Mario Martinez's
beautiful new restaurant Vientos on Puerto San Luis Cove. Martinez,
owner of Puerto San Luis Lodge and Yacht Club (the former Bahia
Azul), has constructed a vast - for a restaurant - space capable
of seating well over one hundred people. If half the lake population
decides they want to go out to dinner at the same time, it looks
as if Vientos could accommodate them and provide a great view along
with the food. However, at this time the restaurant is catering
only to private parties. Bob Benjamin and Traveling Light provided
good music throughout the evening, though, after indulging in the
bountiful turkey dinner, few celebrants felt light enough to dance.
Ed Yurica and Sandy Shaw of Fuentes Verdes responded to an invitation
from mayoral candidate Sandra Arraya on Nov. 22, meeting with her
for an hour to brief her on Fuentes Verdes concerns before the mayoral
debate on Nov. 27. A candidate for PAC (Partido de Acción
Ciudadana), she has degrees in accounting and business administration.
Sandy reports that Sra. Arraya is well aware of the

problems at Buena Vista VI
and has even seen the project. She also had some interesting tidbits
about why the muni isn't functioning. Summed up Sandy, the Secretary
of Fuentes Verdes, "After an hour's conversation, she's got
my vote!!!" The vote for mayor of Tilaran will be on Dec. 3.
Also according to Sandy, G-PAW, (Fundación Guanacasteca para
el Bienestar Animal) just received a generous donation from the
Plantas Eólicas in Parcelas, which just covers the remaining
expenses (146.000 colones) for the spay/neuter clinic held there
a few weeks ago. "With donations like these," said Sandy,
"we can keep up the good work!"
Fuentes Verdes co-hosted an Artist Gathering ("Fuentes Verdes
is not just about water," said President Ed Yurica) at Hotel
Tilawa on November 22. The idea behind the event was for artists
to bring their art, meet other artists in the community, and perhaps
even sell what they have created. A Hotel Tilawa spokesperson said
that a purpose of the event - and another to come before Christmas
- was to reveal a community of artists and perhaps encourage further
growth of an art colony at Lake Arenal.
