Every Wednesday we do our reportorial thing, submitting to the Tico Times, a national English -language newspaper, a short report of events at Lake Arenal. The reports appear on the Community Connections page of the Weekender section of the Tico Times. We post them to the website on deadline day, so they appear online 10 days before appearing in the Tico Times.)
Arenal Report for Tico Times November 1 2006
The Halloween party that overflowed Christina Glass's spacious home on Oct. 28 was a big success for Las Damas del Lago's library project, raising about $300. A surprisingly large number of estranjeros showed up, about 60, looking stranger than usual for the occasion, though no one was very scarey, except unintentionally. The happy damas gave most credit to Helen Hollenbeck for her work in organizing the event.

The Hotel Tilawa now has a guest chef, Memo, who each evening will be preparing a special to spice up the dinner menu. Memo asks that people

coming to enjoy the special call ahead of time sohe can plan his quantities. The Tilawa number is 695-5050. The Tilawa restaurant benefits from very fresh vegetables from the hotel's three gardens.

The local toucans gave indication of a population explosion recently, a widely dispursed gang of 17 of them rather comically gliding and flapping their way down the hillside and over the Tilawa tennis court late one afternoon, perhaps on their way to a roost near the lake. Usually, a group of four approaches awesomeness.
