| Two
major concerns of the Lake Arenal area were on the agenda at the Feb.
4th meeting of Fuentes Verdes Ecological Association held at the home
of Al Almeida on the north side of the lake near Nuevo Arenal. One
item was the progress in establishing an animal shelter at the village
of Los Angeles for the cantons of Tilaran, Canas, and Bagaces. The
second item, of increasing importance, was the effects on the lake
of the upsurge in development, focusing on the continued use of septic
systems rather than sewage treatment plants. One example was the 18-home
gated community called Buena Vista 1 being built next to Puerto San
Luis Lodge and Yacht Club. Buena Vista 1 is on a beautiful but not
very large sloping hillside right beside San Luis Cove. It was rumored
that a sewage treatment plant would be required, but that apparently
is now not the case. After quite some time, only one home, the model,
has been built, but if 18 are built, some fine engineering expertise
will be required to keep the septics from eventually affecting the
lake water. |

El Vivero Lago Verde - Green
Lake Greenhouse - opened in December in a very handy location for
lake dwellers. You can see the Lago Verde sign on the road between
San Luis and Tronadora. It's a short way up the Chimurria (El Roble)
road, less than 100 meters past Casa Manana Bed and Breakfast. The
owners are long-time Tronadora resident Elsie Castillo and Randall
Morena, who has spent some time in Canada and speaks English. The
hours are 7 am to 7 pm 7 days a week, more if needed. In addition
to a broad spectrum of flowers, plants, and trees, Lago Verde offers
landscape design, lawn and irrigation installation and other home
services. The phone numbers are 693-1361 and (cel) 812-8223. Email
addresses are lagoverde@racsa.co.cr and oscoricocr@yahoo.com.
