| So much is in the
works in the Arenal area, particularly in musical plans, that it's
hard to keep track of. Here's what we know or think we know at this
point. First, the Ministra de Cultura,. Youth, and Sports will have
been in Tilaran the day before this news is published to discuss with
residents' plans for overall cultural enrichment for the area. We'll
report on those discussions in the next issue of the Tico Times.
Other locals, specifically,
the Hotel Tilawa and Fuentes Verdes Ecological Association, uniting
with efforts all over the world to bring attention to the global
warming crisis, will host a World Day event at Hotel Tilawa on April
14. An email from one of the organizers states, "There will
be over 700 protests around the world to bring attention to the
global warming catastrophe. It will be called World Day and will
included artists and craftspeople, live music with B.B. Zuniga (Bob
Benjamins full name which he will be using from now on) and his
band Traveling Light (including saxophone player Brad Schmidt and
guitarist Brian Burback, both of the Leatherbacks in Tamarindo),
and various local musicians. To be a part of this wonderful day
of celebration, call Hotel Tilawa at 695-5050 and talk to Brian
or Memo, or contact us here at puravidaville@hotmail.com.

artists and craftspeople as
well as musicians."
Moving from Hotel Mystica to
La Tejona Restaurant are the regular Sunday musical evenings, starting
at 6 pm, with the inexhaustible musicians Bob Benjamin - oops, B.B.
Zuniga - and Traveling Light. Restauranteur Ronald presents a full
bar and his regular menu. We hear there was some semi-abandoned
dancing at the first event at the new location on March 4.
On the other side of the lake,
Dave Warner at Toad Hall has ambitious plans to serve the musical
tastes of the region. Toad Hall is the popular restaurant/souvenir
shop/gallery located about halfway between Nuevo Arenal and the
dam. He's planning to host in late March or early April the first
of many concerts, calling the first one - if not all of them -
The Toadstock Music Festival. He writes that he's pretty well "tapped
in" to the Costa Rican musical scene and can present a four-hour
concert after selecting from quite a list of performers. First,
he's like to know what sort of music and what performers concert
fans would like. To perhaps get a copy of his questionnaire, call
Dave at 692-8001 or email him at toadhallgallery@gmail.com..
