Every Wednesday we do our reportorial thing, submitting to the Tico Times, a national English -language newspaper, a short report of events at Lake Arenal. The reports appear on the Community Connections page of the Weekender section of the Tico Times. We post them to the website on deadline day, so they appear online 10 days before appearing in the Tico Times.)
Arenal Report for Tico Times October 10 2007
The roster of performers for Tilaran's third monthly Pena Cultural was indefinite as we submitted this report to the Tico Times, but, if this Pena is anything like the first two, it is bound to provide a pleasureable evening. We know for sure it will occur at 6 pm on September 19 and is likely to be in the high school auditorium in Tilaran. The cultural association, named with less than great verbal economy Asociación de Desarrollo Específico Pro Rescate y Estudio del Folclor, el Arte y La Cultura del Cantón de Tilarán, is inviting not only impressive local singers, musicians, and poets, but as before will import impressively talented performers from other areas. Among those being invited are Alex Piedra, who is a singer, and his brother, who writes poetry, as well as Capoeira dancers from San Carlos. (Capoeira is a Brazilian kind of martial art) Among several fine local performers will be a typical dance group from Tronadora, and

some reggae singers. I personally hope that some of the performers we saw in September will be back.

However, it appears that there is so much talent available that the program will be quite changed each month.

So, at six pm this evening (Oct. 19), you can find yourself very enjoyably entertained at the high school auditorium (or wherever they direct you from there). If you read this article before that time and want better information, email me at one of the addresses below.
