Every Wednesday we do our reportorial thing, submitting to the Tico Times, a national English -language newspaper, a short report of events at Lake Arenal. The reports appear on the Community Connections page of the Weekender section of the Tico Times. We post them to the website on deadline day, so they appear online 10 days before appearing in the Tico Times.)
Arenal Report for Tico Times November 2 2007
Tonight (Nov. 2) is a great night to show up at Mario Martinez' Puerto San Luis Yacht Club restaurant to enjoy fine entertainment from a variety of Guanacaste singers and musicians. The program in the capacious and beautiful restaurant begins at 8 pm with five entertainers who intend to demonstrate that their talents are worthy of support from the expat community. Only five or six expats have attended the three monthly Pena Cultural concerts the local arts association has presented so far. Now comes the opportunity for greater numbers to enjoy the surprisingly accomplished talents of these amateurs who should be professionals. Perhaps the word will spread after tonight and these singers and guitarists will have regular paying "gigs"

at Mario's or the Arenal Country Club.

Performers tonight include Cristian Porras, the humorous and inventive guitarist and singer from Tilaran. Also from Tilaran are scholarhip-winning Ana Maria Herrera, a wonderful singer and guitarist and her sidekick, Gustavo Wattson. From Nicoya comes the widely popular and rousing singer/guitarist Guadalupe Urbina, and from either Nicoya or Santa Cruz Olman Briseño, another singer/guitarist. What makes these people especially entertaining is their affability and humor.

The cover charge is 3.000 colons. You'll be glad you spent it. This entertainment is worth a lot more.
