 | The
belatedly rescued sloth | An
animal rescue was performed in Chimurria recently to the premature delight of
all who saw the tiny baby sloth or photos of it. Found at the edge of a field
by a weed-whacking worker, the sloth was delivered to the owners of the field,
Sonja and Chris Sullivan of San Luis. They sent the baby down to the Pumas Rescue
Center near Canas, but it died as Las Pumas was preparing to send it to the Buttercup
Rescue Center (sloth rescue and rehabilitation specialists) south of Limon. It
is likely that the baby fell from a tree and its mother was then afraid - with
very good reason - to descend to the ground, which she would do out of defecative
necessity only about once a week. Los
Vientos, the huge new restaurant at Mario Martinez' Puerto San Luis Lodge and
Yacht Club, was filled nearly to capacity on Friday, Nov. 2, to hear some fine
local and visiting musicians |
| singing
a type of music called "trova" to guitar accompaniment. The
audience seemed split 50/50 between Ticos and Gringos, most of the latter hearing
these accomplished, confident and amiable musicians for the first time, only a
handful of Gringos having made it so far to any of the three monthly Penas Culturales
organized by Tilaran's Grupo Pro-Pena Cultural. Tonight's
fourth monthly Pena Cultural is likely to be much better attended by the expat
community, freshly appreciative of these talented and very entertaining musicians.
The program starts at 6 pm at the colejio (high school) auditorium in Tilaran.
Entrance is free and donations are well-earned.
The
local musicians who performed Nov. 2 at Los Vientos were Cristian Porras, Ana
Maria Alvarez, and Gustavo Wattson.
The splendid visitors were Carol Cabeceta of Hojancha and the brilliant Olman
Briseno of Nicoya. After the regular program,. Popular local folk rock musician
B.B. Zuniga (formerly known as Bob Benjamin) took the stage, inspiring some of
the Gringos to jump to their feet in amusing approximations of dance. |
