| Pizza connoisseur Bill Whelchel (whose mode of dress
renders food spillages inconsequential) introduced a half dozen friends
to the superior pizza now conveniently available in Tronadora at Pizzaria
Texas. The new pizzeria, which has outdoor tables, is on a corner
across the street from where the Texas Bar and Restaurant used to
be, and is, in another direction, also across the street from the
central soccer field. Neighbor Dan Sheehan brought with him a selection
of vegetables from his very productive organic gardens and also several
huge avocados from his persistently productive fruit trees, slathering
thick layers of the perfect avocado on his pieces of the excellent
pizza. Dan attributes the productivity of his fruit trees to the appreciation
he shows them in his declarations of affection. One of his successes
is a mango tree which he was told had been |
barren for at least 15 years. Following advice, Dan
gave it a whack with a sledge ammer, and it has been over-producing
since. Another success for tough love.
Those locals hoping for a reopening of the Arenal Country Club's
nice facilities - the swimming pool, tennis courts, fitness equipment,
and aerobics room - are awaiting resolution of an ownership dispute,
an ongoing drama which has seen the current owners serve an eviction
notice on a a pair of long-term Tronadora residents and developers
who claim to have some ownership interest. Police were involved
during a dramatic dispute on the night of February 6, but, as of
February 7, the car of the evictees was still parked in the driveway
behind the formidable gates.
