Every Wednesday we do our reportorial thing, submitting to the Tico Times, a national English -language newspaper, a short report of events at Lake Arenal. The reports appear on the Community Connections page of the Weekender section of the Tico Times. We post them to the website on deadline day, so they appear online 10 days before appearing in the Tico Times.)
Arenal Report for Tico Times February 21 2007
Fuentes Verdes, Lake Arenal's 10-year-old association of grass-roots environmental activists, after much work these past few months to excite proper governmental oversight of rampant development, now seeks more membership and support. President Ed Yurica has scheduled a general membership meeting at Hotel Tilawa on Saturday, March 10, at 1 pm. According to Ed, "Members, those interested in the Arenal Aquifer, those interested in joining a 'Green Print' attitude are welcomed." For more information e-mail

Residents of Las Parceles, long frustrated by the fitful water service of the inadequate system, held a horse and music blow-out weekend on February 23-25, dedicating 50% of the proceeds from the dances, the cabalgata, and other events toward construction of a new water tank for the hilltop community. At this time we don't know whether enough was raised to fund the tank. Currently, residents can not be sure of producing a flow of water when turning a tap.
